Micro-laser projection technology (referred to as micro-projection): a technology that uses a micro-electromechanical two-dimensional micro-scanning mirror and red, green and blue (RGB) lasers to form images by laser scanning.

Since its appearance, projection technology has gone through three generations, namely CRT (Crystal Ray Tube: Cathode Ray Tube) technology, LCD (Liquid Crystal Display: Liquid Crystal Display) technology and LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon, LCoS) technology/DLP (Digital Light Processor: digital optical processor) technology. Among them, CRT technology appeared early and has a long history. Mainly used in aerospace, remote control monitoring and other relative professional fields. The new generation of projection technology is mainly divided into two types. Among them, the DLP technology developed by Texas Instruments adopts the micro-mirror reflection projection technology. In the projection effect, the brightness and contrast are significantly improved, the volume and weight are significantly reduced, and the market prospect is promising; LCOS projection technology, also known as liquid crystal on silicon and silicon crystal light technology (Liquid Crystal on Silicon, LCoS), is an emerging technology that combines semiconductor technology and liquid crystal display (LCD). The technology appeared in the late 1990s. Its first molded products were developed in 2000 by Aurora Systems. This product features high-resolution, low-cost, reflective imaging.

Power saving, cheap and high resolution are the big advantages of LCOS. LCOS can be regarded as a kind of LCD, but traditional LCD is made on glass substrate, but LCOS is grown on silicon wafer. Compared with LCOS products, the high temperature polysilicon LCD commonly used in projectors is represented. The latter usually uses penetrating projection, the light utilization efficiency is only about 3%, and the resolution is not easy to improve; LCOS adopts reflective projection, and the light utilization efficiency can reach more than 40%, and its big advantage is that it can be widely used. , Inexpensive CMOS process, no additional investment is required, and it can be rapidly miniaturized with the semiconductor process, which is easy to improve the resolution. In contrast, high-temperature polysilicon LCD requires additional investment in equipment, and is a special process, so the cost is not easy to reduce. Comparison of various technology applications.
