An edged lens is modified from a standard circular lens. Its non‑imaging peripheral edges are precisely cut by CNC, while the complete central effective optical area is preserved. The outer contour is machined into non‑circular shapes such as flats, rectangles or hexagons. Both spherical and aspherical lenses can be edged. Its optical surfaces, focal length and aberration characteristics remain identical to the original circular lens; only the mechanical mounting profile is changed. The edged flat surfaces serve as assembly positioning references, facilitating installation within compact module spaces, dense multi‑lens arrangement and reduction of overall lens size. Applications: periscope phone lenses, endoscopes, laser modules, AR/VR, and automotive LiDAR optical systems.
